Play, Laughter, and Love: Documenting the Clarks as they welcome baby #2

Some photoshoots just linger in your heart long after you pack up your camera and head home.

Photographing the Clark family has always been one of those experiences for me.

I first met J.C. at work and Cindy shortly after when they were expecting their son, Grayson. I captured their maternity photos during that season of anticipation and excitement, and then I was honored to photograph Grayson as a newborn. Now, a few years later, here we are again—this time documenting another beautiful milestone as they prepare to welcome their second little boy.

This session felt extra special.

I didn’t want it to be about perfectly posed smiles or standing still for the camera. Parenthood isn’t still—it's messy and giggly and full of movement. It’s in the in-between moments. So I encouraged them to simply be a family. To play with Grayson, to chase his laughter, to hug, to explore. My goal was to capture the essence of this sweet family at this stage in their life—how they love each other, how they play in their little boy, and how they’re preparing to welcome another.

We met at a park in Woodstock, Georgia, that seemed almost made for a day like this. Wooden bridges criss-crossed a gentle river, and all around us, life was happening—families playing, kids splashing in the water, kayakers gliding past. There was warmth in the air, both from the sun and from the joy in every corner of the park.

Among all of this life and movement, we found quiet spaces—hidden nooks with wild grasses and tiny fields tucked just out of sight. These little pockets of calm gave us space to pause, breathe, and capture more intimate moments amidst the hum of a happy Sunday.

Watching J.C. and Cindy with Grayson was such a joy. They are so present with him—laughing, playing, holding hands, embracing the sweet chaos that comes with raising a toddler. Not to mention the teachings and pointing out every flower, bug, and object in English and Spanish- as Cindy is bilingual. And in quieter moments, there was a tenderness between them that spoke volumes about the love they’ve built together as a family.

As I clicked the shutter, I kept thinking about how meaningful it is to document this particular chapter in their story. They’re not just adding a second baby—they’re expanding the love and life they’ve already created. Grayson is about to become a big brother, and their hearts (and home) are about to stretch in ways they can’t fully imagine yet. What a gift to freeze this in time for them.

For me, this session was a reminder of why I love this work so much. It’s not about the perfect pose. It’s about the way a father’s eyes light up when his son giggles. It’s about a mother holding her growing belly while chasing her firstborn through a sun-drenched field. It’s about the everyday magic of family.

Clark family—thank you, again, for trusting me to walk alongside you through these precious seasons. I can’t wait to meet your newest little one soon.
